H59 brass is a copper-zinc alloy with a dual-phase microstructure. Reliable metallographic preparation is essential for clearly revealing the distribution and morphology of the α and β phases.
For this sample, TROJAN’s preparation workflow combines controlled sectioning, progressive grinding, and fine polishing to help minimize surface damage and achieve consistent results.
Preparation workflow:
- Cutting:Beta-250 Automatic Cutting Machine with an S20 SiC Cutting Wheel
- Grinding:P400 → P2500
- Rough Polishing:SC-JP + 3 μm PD-WT
- Final Polishing:ZN-ZP + 50 nm SO-A439
- Etching:FeCl₃–HCl solution
The Beta-250 supports controlled, consistent sectioning, while the Alpha-610 Automatic Grinder & Polisher provides controlled grinding force and programmable preparation steps for repeatable surface quality.
After etching, the α and β phases can be distinguished more clearly, supporting the evaluation of phase distribution and grain morphology.
Consistent preparation is the foundation for reliable microstructural evaluation.
